UNBLOCKED COUNSELING
My Approach
I begin helping you, or you and your partner, from an understanding that growth and change can be both scary and exciting. I meet my clients wherever they are, and work with them in a non-judgmental and supportive manner to build a life of meaning, both in relationship to themselves and in relationship to others. Witnessing and being part of your positive change and growth is what gets me excited to come into work every day!

In my work with couples, I integrate both the Gottman Method and Emotionally-Focused Therapy to help you to identify and modify your conflict patterns, build and enhance your friendship with each other, and create shared meaning within your relationship. Our work together leads to more authentic communication, improved trust, and better emotional and sexual connection.

Similar to the ways I approach helping couples, my approach to individual therapy is interactive, integrative, collaborative, and derived from research-based models of therapy. I help individuals in ways that integrate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems, Humanistic and Systemic principles, Positive Psychology, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).

Sessions with me will include open and honest conversations about your past and present while of course exploring and helping you to create your hopes for the future. Many people come to me when they are at the precipice of major life changes, including the consideration of career changes. Prior to my work as a therapist, I practiced law for over 10 years. My past career as a litigator allows me to understand the challenges of working in highly competitive workplaces, with their inherent long hours, constant deadlines, office politics, and incessant pressure that can lead to burnout, anxiety, depression, and fatigue. I understand that the idea of work-life balance can seem illusory, if not ridiculous! I've personally seen that even when we have the best intentions, our relationships, and personal well-being can fall victim to the stresses of life and of the office. To me, success in the therapy room means that an individual or couple learns to better cope with the stresses of life through embracing their inherent flexibility, curiosity, and courage.
